Apple Announces New iTunes and Ringtones for iPhone

At a special media event today in San Francisco, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that a new version of iTunes would be released tonight. Along with that new version, new features and devices would be supported, including the ability to create ringtones for the iPhone.

Out of the 6 million songs available on iTunes, 500,000 of them will be available for ringtones. You simply select the song you want to use, select up to 30 seconds of the song, and for 99 cents, it is your new ringtone. The cost is in addition to the purchase of the song.

The new ringtone feature will be available next week.
