City Stages Is Looking Good

Every year on Father’s Day weekend (although it was in May for the last 3 years), Downtown Birmingham hosts the City Stages, a 3-day music festival with a wide variety of musical acts. I think one year their “big acts” were Ludacris and Willie Nelson. It doesn’t get much more varied than that.

Last year I really wanted to go, but was out of town the weekend it was set to occur. They had some great acts come through that are high on my list of shows to see, including North Mississippi Allstars, Robert Randolph and The Family Band, Nickel Creek, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones, and lots of others.

This year, they have already announced some acts and the weekend is shaping up nicely. They have already announced some artists such as Ruben Studdard, Al Green, Fountains of Wayne and others. Of those already announced, I am most looking forward to Los Lonely Boys, Ralph Stanley and My Morning Jacket.

More to come as the festival shapes up.
