Super Bulldog Weekend and A9

I am taking a long weekend to visit the ol’ alma mater for the spring version of homecoming, also known as Super Bulldog Weekend. Work has been really busy lately (which is, of course, always a good thing), so the vacation is welcome.

Basically, there are lots of festivities that center around the 3-game baseball series. This year, we are playing Florida. There is also a spring scrimmage with the football team, various alumni reunions, a Pig Cooking Contest and a concert.

I am going mostly for the baseball and to visit some of my favorite eateries from college, namely Little Dooey’s BBQ and Oby’s.

Mississippi State is a great place to go to a baseball game. The stadium, officially known as Dudy-Noble Field at Polk-Dement Stadium, has a great atmosphere. Beyond the outfield wall is what is known as the Left-Field Lounge. It is basically an area where groups park their custom-made bleachers, complete with grills and more. I have been to games where the smoke coming off the grills in the Lounge was so heavy, you could barely see the outfielders.

Can’t wait.

A9

Amazon launched a search engine the other day. A9 not only offers a web search (powered by Google, but who isn’t these days), but also offers its new “Search The Book” service, which allows you to search the text of books for sale at Amazon.

One of the things I really like about it is the Search History. Sign in with your Amazon account and it will keep track of the terms you searched for. It will also allow you to view certain site information provided by Alexa, such as where a site ranks among other websites, how long it has been active, and how many other sites link to it.

Seems like a solid engine. I will probably go back and forth between A9 and Google for sometime. The nice thing about Google is the ability to search the web and newsgroups simultaneously. Often, when my search centers around a problem, the newsgroups offer the quickest solution.

A9 is surely a site to watch.
