Momentarily

I am back from a long holiday weekend in Mississippi, but only for a few days. The Wife and I are heading to Gatlinburg this weekend for an anniversary holiday. In the meantime, work is still busy with internal and external projects so not much time for blogging this week.

I was pretty much cut off from everything this weekend, in part because of the lack of a broadband web connection and in part because the TV in the family room of my grandfather-in-law went out on Christmas Eve. I didn’t even know about the earthquake/tsunami in the Indian Ocean until sometime Sunday afternoon. My Wife’s great-aunt was in India over the Christmas holiday, but thankfully was out of harms way in the northern area of India. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who was affected by this tragedy.

I updated my RSS reader once over the weekend. Downloading 300+ news items on a dialup connection is not fun. Sidenote: Meridian is a great place to still experience 28.8 dialup speeds. Trying to use remote desktop to an XP box in the office is even more fun.

Have a Happy New Year.

Have fun in Gatlinburg. If you haven’t before, you definitely have to go drive the Cades Cove Loop Road in Smoky Mtn. Nat. Park. It’s very nice. Not to mention the rest of the park. Gatlinburg is fun. I remember eating at some kinda pancake house on a snowy day there many years ago. The town was dead, it was really nice. This is the time to go.

We have been going to Gatlinburg for a while now. I think I first went when my wife and I started dating in High School. She had already been going since childhood. We have gone at least twice a year since then.

I usually like to go hiking in the park. I have hiked about 20 miles of the AT in the park, as well as a few trails in the Cades Cove area and several of the waterfalls in the park.

The best pancake place in “the ‘burg” is the Log Cabin Pancake House on Airport. If you like those fancy pancakes with fruit and stuff, try the Pancake Pantry.

The Log Cabin Pancake House, I think that was the one. YUM!

I’m stopping by to say hi since it’s de-lurker day… so hi and Happy New Year!

There are at least a few places in Tuscaloosa that force one to experience 28.8 dialup - and I live in one of them… Such is life…
