A Firefox Problem

I have had a problem come up with Firefox on my computer here at work (a PC). If I am at a page that contains a link which creates a pop-up via Javascript, it almost seems as if Firefox isn’t even executing that Javascript. I know it used to work in my previous installations of Firefox, and I am fairly certain that it once worked in this installation.

It also seems to work fine on my Mac and my XP box.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Another problem I have noticed is that when I am viewing a page with video in it (such as a newscast), after I close Firefox, I get the following error:

firefox.exe - Application error

The Instruction at “0×053d6866″ referenced memory at “0×00000002″. The memory could not be “written”.

Click on OK to terminate the program.

I am not sure if this could be related to the javascript problem or not.

I have the same problem and it didn’t seem to happen when I first had firefox.

A friend of mine seemed to think that it may have something to do with Windows Media player. I usually get the error if I have viewed anything using windows media player, whether it is embedded into the page or it launches the actual player app.

    The latter is a bug 244713 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=244713

One workaround is to disable/uninstall java.

Its a Microsoft conspiracy I tell you! They don’t want anyone using anything related to them in Firefox, so they sabotage and make it look like Firefox’s fault.

For the Javascript problem, make sure Javascript didn’t get disabled under Tools -> Options -> Web Features. There is a section to enable Java and Javascript and an advanced Javascript menu to define what types of scripts you want to run.

For the other problem, I would try uninstalling JRE and Firefox, then reinstall JRE and Firefox in that order. It all depends though.

Do you get that error after closing Firefox, closing WMP (if used externally), or after closing the page? Is the video still playing or stopped when you request to exit? Any recent Windows or Windows Media Player updates?

Try opening options under ‘tools’, then select ‘web features’ (on the left side)…in that panel disable java, close firefox….after that you should be able to re-enable java.

    Good luck
