Using Textpattern

While I plan on keeping this site WordPress driven for the forseeable future, I have converted the site I keep for my son to Textpattern.
There were several reasons why I decided to do this. For one, I am speaking at a conference in July on blogging and RSS, and part of my presentation will focus on various types of blogging software. So I took this as an opportunity to familiarize myself with Textpattern. In addition to experimenting with TextPattern, I have also been using Blogger to post items from my NetNewsWire reader. You can check it out at http://jeremyflint.blogspot.com
Second, a few weeks ago, the site started throwing SQL errors without warning and I haven’t had a chance to debug it. I have also been wanting to redesign his site, so this seemed a perfect way to sort of force myself into doing that.
The setup of TextPattern was fairly easy. Although the admin interface is completely different from WordPress, it is easy to find your way around.
One thing that did suprise me was how easy it was to get my old content out of WordPress. Textpattern has an import function that works with databases from several different types of blog software, including WordPress. I simply entered the database information and clicked import, and TextPattern did the rest.
At anyrate, I have been really suprised that the ease of use in updating and modifying my son’s site using TextPattern. I will be sure to post more little tidbits as I come across them.

TextPattern is very nice. I’ve been using it for a long time on a few different websites. It’s great.
