Back In The Office
Well, I am back from the beach. It was great to get away from the office and the computer for a while. Ok, so I wasn’t totally away from the computer, but I mean c’mon, I have to have something to upload the photos from the digital camera to.
Hurricane Dennis really seemed to do little damage in the Gulf Shores area. A few blown down trees here and there are all that I saw. But as some people have said, it was hard to tell what was damaged by Dennis and what was left over from Ivan last summer.
So I am back at work in full force, fully recharged for some upcoming redesigns that should be launching soon. I have also launched a few side projects of my own.
The first is my hiking site. I have been interested in hiking for a while and have done a good bit of it on our occasional visits to the Great Smoky Mountains. I decided to start a blog, which for the time being carries the incredibly creative moniker “Hiking”. I will be posting my personal hiking experiences, as well as any news and information I come across related to that subject. For now, the site will live in a sub-directory of jeremyflint.com, but if traffic picks up, I will probably get an actual domain name for it. BTW, I am using TextPattern to run it and have really taken a liking to it.
The other project is a long running one. In 1999 or so, a friend and I had a great idea of creating a “local yahoo” for our hometown, Meridian, MS. He had even landed the domain name cityofmeridian.com. Well, we worked on it throughout college, eventually relegating it to the back burner as we both graduated and went our seperate ways. It has always been there, and contains about 250 sites in the directory. Over the last few weeks, I have started developing it into a blog, talking about local events and happenings in Meridian, just to give it some fresh content. We will see how well it does. Again, TextPattern was called in for the back-end.
Both of these sites are basically running modified versions of the default TextPattern theme until I have time to work on a nice design for them.
Well, that about does it on this end. The PR conference that I was supposed to speak at last weekend has been re-scheduled for mid-August, so that gives me more time to prepare for that.
