Windows Vista Announced

I broke the news last night on ForeverGeek shortly after seeing it mentioned on a few Windows sites. Microsoft has officially announced that Longhorn, their long awaited next generation OS will be known as Windows Vista.
Todd Dominey thinks that the new moniker is no where near as aggressive as XP, but agrees that it seems to fit with some of the latest marketing efforts by Microsoft.
According to Paolo Marcucci, “In Italian it means “view” or “vision” or the scenery that you see outside of Windows”. Maybe they are hinting at the view you will have out your window waiting for the software to finally arrive at the store, or the long amount of the time you will spend gazing out the office window while all your spyware, adware and virus scans are running.

Honestly, I don’t really like the name “Windows Vista.” Maybe it’ll grow on me. I think “Longhorn” sounds better, even though it’s the codename.

Well, I thought that Windows Whistler was better than Windows XP… but that’s always how it goes.
