Birmingham Wifi List, Version 2

I have soft-launched some upgrades to the Birmingham Wifi Hotspot List that IPSA hosts in cooperation with TechBirmingham. When the list launched in November of 2004, it was pretty much a static page with about 50 hotspots listed on it. As the list quickly approached the century mark, we decided that a database-driven solution would better suit the expansion of the list.

The list exceeded 200 hotspots a few weeks ago and it became apparent that it was just getting too big for the current method of displaying information. The list needed a way to be narrowed down for easier use.

For a month or so, we have been working on upgrades to the site that we think will really enhance the usefulness of the list. We are now plotting all 208 (as of this writing) hotspots on an embedded Google Map, thanks to the API. We have also added functions for viewing hotspots by city, as well as breaking out the list alphabetically.

These additions should help make the list more useful for those looking for free/low-cost wifi in the Birmingham area.
