Google Buys Measure Map
I awoke this morning to an e-mail in my inbox from Jeff Veen announcing that Google has aquired MeasureMap.
I have been using MeasureMap over on my Mississippi State Sports Blog since mid-November and have really enjoyed the product. Unlike most stat programs, MeasureMap is taylored to the way that blogs are set up, measuring not only overall traffic, but also breaking it down to traffic for individual posts, the number of links coming in and going out, and comments. It provides a great snapshot of how much traffic your blog is getting across all fronts.
Contrast this with Google Analytics (Urchin). I have been using it on this site since they first launched Analytics. It is more of a full blown site analysis tool, integrating adwords and adsense conversion, detailed user information such as platform, browser, event screen resolution.
It will be interesting to see if (and how) Google integrates the two products. MeasureMap is still in private beta, with new features rolling out sporadically. They offer feeds of the various stats and just recently started up a “Week In Review”. It has also never been clear what the price structure of MeasureMap was going to be, and the aquisition by Google may be the piece of the puzzle to make it a free product rather than fee-based.
Congrats to Jeff and everyone at AdaptivePath for putting out a great product.
