City Stages 2006: Unplugged
Just took an extended lunch and headed down to Amsouth-Harbert Plaza to check out the City Stages Unplugged set. I missed Peter Searcy waiting on my lunch at Roly Poly, but got there in time to see The Bridges and Joshua Radin. The heat started to get to me as they were setting up for L’Angelus and headed back to the office.
The Bridges were pretty good. Joshua Radin (prefers Josh, actually - see story below) was good as well…a very soft, mellow sound which, by his own admittance, is a little too gloomy and sad to be played on such a bright, sunny day.
Jay told me that Joshua Radin prefers Josh, but when he started getting play on TV shows like Scrubs and Grey’s Anatomy, he went to look for a domain name, and JoshRadin.com was taken, so he ended up getting JoshuaRadin.com. He just got signed to Columbia Records and Zach Braff of Scrubs and Garden State fame is directing his first music video.
Anyway, the gates officially open at 5:30 tonight and there are some great shows on tap to kick things off. You can hear The Bridges and Joshua Radin again on the mypeople.com stage, then stick around for the North Mississippi Allstars and John Hiatt.
You can also head over to the Miller Lite Stage to catch Trapt, Puddle of Mudd and Shinedown, or get your groove on when groups like Cameo and Morris Day and the Time bring tha’ funk over at the Coca-Cola stage.
Be sure to check out the City Stages Flickr Group and feel free to join and add your pictures to the pool.
