Apple Store Coming To Birmingham

Update: Apple Store Opening Saturday, April 14
In today’s Birmingham News, Bayer Properties confirmed that they are close to wrapping up negotiations for Apple to open one of its retail stores at The Summit. The store will open sometime in the next few months in a space that is now occupied by an Eddie Bauer store.

The store is expected to open in the spot now occupied by Eddie Bauer by March, these sources say. The 6,500-square-foot store will feature a “genius bar” where Mac experts can offer one-on-one advice, troubleshooting and tips. Shoppers also will find plenty of MacIntosh computers and iPods in a location featuring the sleek design elements that have made other Apple stores shopping destinations.

There are already 3 certified Apple resellers in the Birmingham area. I have wondered how Apple’s retail efforts have affected these kinds of businesses in other areas.

    Woohoo! Right?

Now, if one could come to the Augusta, GA area, that’d be keen. The closest store is two hours away in Atlanta. Not cool. There’s a huge gap in our region… And Augusta would be a prime place to put another store.

    Hallelujah! That is great news.

    That’s just downright exciting!

Finally! About time, and what better atmosphere for an Apple store than the summit?

  6. Geoff has spoken:

Yes! I’m in Huntsville but my father in Birmingham can now get his Apple needs taken care of without having to deal with Best Buy! Woot! Woot!

  7. Patrick Cash has spoken:

Does anyone know how far this is from opening? I had no idea. I was told about it while visiting one of the Mac stores in Orlando. I’m looking to get my first Mac soon :)

  8. Jeremy has spoken:

I don’t think that an official date has been set for the opening of the store. The only indication that there is even going to be an Apple store at The Summit is the listings on the Job Openings page at The Summit website.

According to the rumors sites, looks like early May. I have driven past several times, nothing to see yet.
Café Mac, who tried to be a reseller, is closing.
