Parallels Beta Build 3036

So I just downloaded this beta build of an upcoming Parallels Desktop release. Parallels, in case you didn’t know, is a Boot Camp alternative that lets you run Windows in virtualization, rather than partitioning your drive. This new release adds some great new features that really make the experience of running Windows on a Mac even better.

Parallels Coherence

The most noticable feature of this beta build is the Coherence feature. This allows you to run Windows apps and OS X apps side by side by basically making the Windows XP/Parallels background transparent. But that isn’t all. You can also copy files back and forth between the two operating systems by just dragging and dropping. Prior to this feature, you had to copy files into a single shared folder that was accessed by both. You can also use Mac shortcut keys on Windows apps for things like copy and paste.

The beta is still a little rough around the edges, but it definitely gets me excited about the things to come for Parallels. If you want to see some of these new features in action, check out this video made by one of the guys on the Parallels team.
