Church Blogging
As many may already know, I manage the website for my church, First Baptist Church of Birmingham (AL). Until a few weeks ago, i ran the site using WordPress, making it easy for me to login from anywhere and update it. The only problem was I had upgraded from WP1.2 to WP1.5 and had never really transitioned the site design to a true Theme, so it was sort of crammed into one file.
When I originally moved the site from static HTML to something dynamically driven, I had intended on using Textpattern because of its ability to set up multiple sections and have different layouts for each section (if needed). The only problem was that I had never used Textpattern and didn’t have time to really dig into it the way I wanted to learn all of it’s ins-and-outs. So I went with WordPress because I knew it.
Since then, I have begun using Textpattern on several of my other sites just to be able to mess around with it. To make a long story short, I have migrated the church site off of WordPress and onto Textpattern. The transition has been pretty smooth. I am still getting used to the Textile formatting, but overall I have been happy with the move.
One of the new features we have launched on the church site is FBC Blogs. Two of our pastors, Todd Howard and Ryan Johnson, are blogging about issues they feel are important and warrant discussion. Since launching these blogs for them, I have began discovering lots of information about church blogging in general. There is even a book in the works.
So that is the update on the church site. If you have any interest, check out the blogs.
